“We are waiting…”: Mac Allister’s entourage breaks silence on Liverpool exit links with a clear message to United

In Manchester United’s pursuit of top midfield talent to strengthen their engine room, they have been linked with a wide range of names.

Midfield chase

Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Sandro Tonali have all been linked.

Yet it is not just them. United have also been linked with Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, a rumour that caught many off guard.

The surprise stems from history: United and Liverpool have not exchanged players since 1964, when Phil Chisnall moved to Anfield. So naturally, the Mac Allister talk grabbed headlines.

Mac Allister transfer talk

Some credible sources have dismissed the speculation, while others have vouched for it, even suggesting swap deals United could propose to get the move done.

As speculation around the World Cup winner grew, his entourage have finally stepped forward to address the situation.

Response to United links

Carlos Mac Allister, Alexis’s father and agent, speaking to Win Win, clarified his son’s position.

He said, “Alexis is only thinking about Liverpool at the moment. We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We will see what the club’s plan is.”

Asked whether his son might consider a move abroad if Liverpool fail to offer a new deal, he added: “We’ll wait and see what happens with the renewal. That’s all.”

Those admissions hardly give United much hope of landing the Argentine. Still, with Mac Allister only one of many names on INEOS’ shortlist, and plenty of time before the summer window, United retain flexibility to pursue other targets.

Mac Allister a transfer gamble

Truthfully, Mac Allister has not been revolutionary this season; he has struggled for form.

While he brings Premier League experience and versatility, signing him would represent a gamble, a bet that he rediscovers his brilliance. That is a risk United should avoid.

There are other tried-and-tested Premier League midfielders in form whom United could prioritise instead. Doing so would spare them the uncertainty of the Mac Allister saga, with the 27‑year‑old currently focused only on Liverpool.
