Watch Turnstile’s awesome cover of The Stone Roses’ “I Wanna Be Adored” for ‘Like A Version’

Turnstile have flexed their genre-defying muscles once again, this time by performing a cover of The Stone Roses‘ baggy/Madchester classic “I Wanna Be Adored” for triple j‘s covers series ‘Like A Version.’ About choosing that song, Brendan Yates told triple j, “I love this song. It’s one of my favorite songs of all time. It’s unconventional and simple and very just beautiful.”

Guitarist Meg Mills also said that the song was chosen in part to pay tribute to the late Stone Roses bassist Gary “Mani” Mournfield.

“We’ve done covers for years,” Yates continued. “Typically, we’ve not recorded a lot of them, but we’ve done a lot of covers, different covers live, different bands. But this was a different experience ’cause we actually kind of got to actually lay it down in a studio. And it was cool. It felt good to kind of… especially when on tour and you’re playing your songs every night, to break from that and and play someone else’s.”

Turnstile nailed a balance between staying faithful to the original and making it sound like Turnstile, and I highly recommend checking out this awesome cover below. They also performed their own “Sunshower” for triple j, which Yates said was chosen because they wanted their original song to be from the “opposite end of the spectrum from the cover.” Check that and the interview clip out below as well.
