Watch Olivia Rodrigo cover Fontaines D.C.’s ‘I Love You’ in Dublin ahead of Glastonbury headline slot

Olivia Rodrigo has covered Fontaines D.C.‘s ‘I Love You’ in Dublin – check out footage of the performance below.

Ahead of her headlining slot at Glastonbury Festival on Sunday (June 29), the ‘good 4 u!’ singer took over the Marlay Park in Dublin yesterday (June 24). Mid-way through her set, the soon-to-be Glasto headliner surprised fans by whipping out a cover of hometown heroes Fontaines D.C.’s beloved 2022 hit ‘I Love You’, taken off the ‘Skinty Fia’ album.

“Another reason why I love Dublin so much is you guys have really amazing music here – like there are so many incredible bands out of Dublin,” she said to the crowd. “Lately I’ve been obsessed with this band Fontaines D.C. and I’ve been playing this song alone in my room for fun, and I was wondering if it’d be cool if I played it for you guys.”

The cover sees Rodrigo beginning the performance solo, before she’s slowly joined by her backing band as they near the track’s climactic end.

Later this week, Rodrigo is set to perform a massive headline show at Hyde Park’s London series, with her June 27 gig marking her biggest UK show to date. Although tickets for the BST Hyde Park concert are sold-out, if any more last-minute tickets become available, you can find them here.

It isn’t the only huge UK performance Rodrigo has lined up for this summer either, as she will also be joining Neil Young and The 1975 in headlining Glastonbury 2025. The slot on the Pyramid Stage will mark her second appearance at the Worthy Farm festival, following on from her performance to a mammoth crowd to The Other Stage in 2022.

In other Glastonbury-related news, it appears that Neil Young’s headline set on Sunday will not be included in the BBC’s coverage. While the platform has not explicitly said why Neil Young’s set has not been included on the schedule, it may stem from the comments made by the ‘Harvest Moon’ songwriter about Glastonbury’s partnership with the BBC.

Around the end of last year, Young made headlines when he shared a statement with fans, confirming that he was set to perform at Glastonbury as a headliner (before the official line-up was announced) –  but had pulled out due to creative differences. This decision, he explained on Neil Young Archives, was related to the BBC partnership and the event feeling like “a corporate turn-off”.

“The Chrome Hearts and I were looking forward to playing Glastonbury, one of my all time favorite outdoor gigs. We were told that BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in,” his statement read. Just days later, he would go back on this decision and describe it as a misunderstanding.

The gates for the iconic festival open today (June 25), and the event will run up until Sunday (29). Headliners the Other Stage are Loyle CarnerCharli XCX and The Prodigy, while Rod Stewart will be playing Sunday’s Legend’s Slot.
