Despite some wondering if brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher would be able to stay civil enough to actually reunite, Oasis successfully played their first show in 16 years on Friday at Principality Stadium on Cardiff, Wales which was the first date of their highly anticipated reunion tour. (The play the stadium again on Saturday.) Oddsmakers predicted the Britpop stars would open their set with fan favorite b-side “Acquiesce,” but they went with a more obvious and fitting choice: “Hello” which the opening track on their mega-selling second album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? Then they played “Acquiesce.”

The band, which includes original guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs back in the band for the first time since 1998 plus later-period Ride members Andy Bell of Ride on bass and Gem Archer on third guitar, plus first-timer Joey Waronker on the drum kit, stuck mostly to their Imperial era with songs from Morning Glory and debut album Definitely Maybe as well as b-sides from those albums’ single, with only three songs from beyond 1995: Be Here Now’s “D’You Know What I Mean?” and “Stand By Me,” and Heathen Chemistry’s “Little by Little.”

In addition to “Acquiesce,” Oasis played for other b-sides: “Talk Tonight” (also from “Some Might Say”),  “Fade Away” (b-side to “Cigarettes and Alcohol”), “Half the World Away” (b-side to “Whatever”) and “The Masterplan” (“Wonderwall” b-side). Most of their set was dedicated to hits and deep cuts from the first two albums, including “Some Might Say,”  “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” “Cigarettes & Alcohol,” “Slide Away,” “Supersonic,” “Live Forever ” (de and more, with the four-song encore closing with “Wonderall” and “Champagne Supernova.” It was a two-hour singalong and you can check out the tour kickoff setlist and video and a couple more photos, below.

Opening the Cardiff show and the whole UK tour are Cast, who will also play Oasis’ NYC and LA shows, and former The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft (who just announced a new solo album). Check out their setlists below too.
