Vampire Weekend announce 2 Wellmont Theater shows w/ Ezra’s high school band Sophisticuffs

Vampire Weekend will be continuing their Only God Was Above Us tour starting later this summer and running into the fall with a mix of festival appearances (Fuji Rock, Outside Lands, Shaky Knees, more) and headline shows. They’ve just added a few of the latter in the US, including New Orleans, Las Vegas, and two in NJ. All dates are listed below.

The NJ shows are at the 2500-capacity Wellmont Theater on September 15 & 16. Their previous NYC-area shows were two nights at Madison Square Garden last fall. These will be their first NJ shows in 16 years.

Both Wellmont shows are opened by a reunited Sophisticuffs, aka Ezra Koenig’s pre-VW high school band with Wes Miles from Ra Ra Riot, Dan Millar and Andrei Padlowski. Whether its the original Sophisticuffs lineup for these two shows remains to be seen, but tickets go on sale Friday, June 27 at 10 AM with various presales beginning Wednesday (6/25) at 10 AM.
