United prioritise surprising new position along with midfield as Amorim’s rebuild continues – report

Manchester United have reportedly earmarked another position for strengthening, despite the primary objective being the middle of the park.

United looking to bolster their midfield

United failed to address their midfield during the summer transfer window, instead choosing to focus on the attacking department. They also secured the services of goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day.

However, United are believed to be preparing to address their midfield crisis as soon as the January transfer window commences.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest) and Carlos Baleba (Brighton and Hove Albion) are two players who are under consideration at Old Trafford.

United explored a move for Baleba in the summer but put their interest on hold after being put off by his steep asking price.

According to TEAMtalk, while United are on the hunt for midfielders, the defence is another area that’s now being prioritised.

United identify another priority signing

TEAMtalk state that United are willing to “bide their time” and bring in a new defender next summer, rather than January.

The only way the club will sanction a swoop for a January defensive signing is if an irresistible market opportunity surfaces. The reason United aren’t prioritising defensive reinforcements in January is that Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire’s long-term futures remain unresolved.

The news outlet adds, “TEAMtalk understands that this campaign is seen as a crucial evaluation and scouting phase for United.”

“They will use it to narrow down the list of long-term targets, with the expectation that by the turn of the year, names will start to emerge as candidates to lead the next stage of the rebuild.”

It’s understood that faith in the rebuild remains firm despite a shaky start to the new campaign.

United are back in action on Sunday when they take on Manchester City at the Etihad.
