United hierarchy “frustrated” with Amorim, whose ill-advised comments “forced” director of football into drastic action – report

Ruben Amorim oversaw Manchester United’s worst-ever Premier League campaign, and yet he was strongly backed by the board in the summer transfer window.

United practically transformed their attack, signing high-profile forwards like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Ineos also handed their head coach a new goalkeeper late in the window.

However, the Red Devils have had a difficult start to the season, registering just a win in their first four games in all competitions. United were knocked out by Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.

Amorim’s concerning post-match comments have further raised alarm bells at Old Trafford.

Manchester United bosses unhappy with Amorim

According to Givemesport, United’s hierarchy want Amorim to “tone down his emotional public outbursts – especially when they are financially damaging or jeopardise the futures of talented young stars.”

Early in the season, Amorim publicly told Kobbie Mainoo that he will be competing with Bruno Fernandes for a place in his starting lineup.

This led to Mainoo asking for a temporary move away from United. It is reported that Jason Wilcox was “forced into scrambling mode to diffuse Kobbie Mainoo’s loan request” before the close of the window.

The report states: “It was also seen as a stupid and unnecessary move by Amorim, one lacking emotional intelligence and empathy with Manchester United’s history of homegrown young stars.”

United were clearly short-changed when they sold Alejandro Garnacho and Antony . Meanwhile, the Mancunians had no option but to accept loan proposals for Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford after Amorim made it clear they would never play for the club again.

The figures at the club would have preferred a more calculated approach like the one Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe adopted to deal with Alexander Isak’s situation. Right until the very end, Howe left the door open for Isak to return.

Higher-ups want Amorim to be more flexible

It is further understood that the ex-Sporting CP boss’ rigid tactical ideas are also “frustrating key insiders” at United. He remains wedded to his 3-4-3 system.

It is claimed that Amorim’s inflexibility is “set to become a bigger issue if he can’t get the best out of a lot of expensive new recruits.”

United bosses would allegedly like the Portuguese to tweak his approach depending on the opposition to avoid predictability.

Having said that, Amorim achieved remarkable success in Lisbon with the same tactical principles and man-management style. Ineos knew what they were getting when they hired him to replace Erik ten Hag mid-season.

The 40-year-old has only now entered his first full-season at United and deserves patience to implement his vision and turn things around in Manchester.
