During the Second World War, nearly 8,000 pianos in France were stolen by the Nazis. In her book “Harmonies volées” (Stolen Harmonies), historian Caroline Piketty tells the story of these looted instruments. After the Liberation, thousands of them were returned to their rightful owners, while others, like their owners, never found their way home.
