Indie-co-op game Peak has surprised everyone by selling a million copies in under a week.
Released last week, “Peak is a co-op climbing game where the slightest mistake can spell your doom.”
“Either solo or as a group of lost nature scouts, your only hope of rescue from a mysterious island is to scale the mountain at its centre. Do you have what it takes to reach the Peak,” says the game’s description. “You’ll need to rely on your friends to have any hope of scaling the mountain, which changes each time you play. Help each other up ledges, or place ropes and climbing spikes to make the way easier for those who come after.”
Taking to social media, developers have now confirmed Peak has sold more than a million copies in just six days. Responding to the news, publisher Aggro Crap wrote: “Why did this stupid jam game sell more copies than [previous release] Another Crab’s Treasure. I’m gonna crash out.”

“You could say it’s because… it’s Peak,” replied one fan, with plenty of other users making the same joke across social media.
Peak, which is available to buy via steam for £6.39, currently has a “very positive” review score and achieved an all-time concurrent player peak yesterday (June 22) with 102,799 people online at the same time.
“This game is an absolute gem, and has an Everest of potential ahead; it is an absolute blast to play with friends, it is truly where the game shines, but single player mode can also be quite fun; and at this price tag it’s a steal. I currently play this game with 2 different friend groups, and I usually end the session with a stomach ache from laughing so hard,” reads one glowing Steam review. “Peak is one of the best games I’ve ever played. I watched my friend die because he lost his grip on the side of a cliff and fell 700 meters down. 10/10 game, game of the year,” reads another.
Publisher Landfall joked that they had been planning on making a sequel called Flop if Peak hadn’t been a success.
In recent weeks, a Roblox mini-game about farming has also taken the internet by storm with more than 16million people playing Grow A Garden last weekend.
In other news, Red Dead Redemption star Rob Wiethoff has admitted he “possibly misled” fans after teasing that an “exciting” announcement was imminent.
