The Hives kicked off their tour in Austin, livestreaming LA show
The Hives just released their awesome new album The Hives Forever Forever The Hives, and kicked off their short North American tour in support on Monday night in Austin. “It was unexpectedly great for a first show, the crowd was fantastic,” Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist told us today. “And we were really good I’m happy to say.”
You’re pretty much guaranteed a good time at a Hives show, between their riffy garage rock rippers and Pelle’s signature leaps, mic swings, and trips into the crowd. The set opened with “Enough is Enough” off the new album and that led straight into mid-’00s classic “Walk Idiot Walk,” and “Rigor Mortis Radio” from The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons.
The Hives played lot of new ones, including “Paint a Picture,” “O.C.D.O.C.,” and “Born a Rebel,” which fit right in next to older faves like “Main Offender,” “Hate to Say I Told You So,” “Try It Again,” and “Tick Tick Boom.” The show ended with a three-song encore that closed with the title track off of The Hives Forever Forever The Hives, a song which seems destined to hold that spot on the setlist for some time to come.
Nashville band Snooper are opening this whole North American run and their manic energy is a great match with The Hives. Check out photos by Dylan Johnson, plus the setlist, upcoming tour dates and a couple fan-shot videos, below.
