The ending of Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials explained: who killed Gerry?
After Gerry is found dead, Brent finds an unfinished letter that mentions the mysterious ‘Seven Dials’, prompting her to investigate further.
She learns that the story seems to connect to Dr. Cyril Matip, a scientist who has developed a valuable new metal formula, but she does not realise that a secret plot is underway to steal the formula. Gerry had stumbled onto fragments of the scheme, noticing suspicious behaviour from his half-sister Loraine and her friend Jimmy.
Loraine learned of Gerry’s suspicions and, desperate to stick to her plot, poisoned him. Bundle’s investigations lead her to find out about Jimmy’s connection to Loraine and deciphers that they must have been behind Gerry’s murder.
It is revealed that ‘Seven Dials’ is not the sinister operation Bundle assumed, but in fact a covert intelligence organisation that is trying to protect the formula.
The final twist is that Bundle learns that the real mastermind behind the conspiracy is her mother Lady Caterham. Grieving family losses from World War I and struggling to maintain her country mansion, she grew desperate, orchestrating the sale of the formula. Caterham is arrested and Jimmy and Loraine are exposed, while Battle invites Bundle to join the Seven Dials herself.
