Syrians celebrate as one year anniversary of Bashar al-Assad’s fall approaches

In Syria, as the anniversary of former president Bashar al-Assad’s fall approaches, people have already started celebrating. Al-Assad held power for 24 years and his family ruled for over 50. Over their rule, the family was responsible for human rights violations and war crimes, including the use of chemical weapons and barrel bombs. While Syrians view the one year anniversary as a joyous occasion, many are still in mourning as all the country suffered at the hands of the al-Assad dynasty. Story by Gabrielle Nadler.
