“Steely confidence”: INEOS believe they’ve hit the transfer jackpot with these two superb summer signings

Manchester United’s feelings on their four summer signings – Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens – have been revealed.

United arrivals making an impact

After struggling for goals in the 2024/25 season, United directed the majority of their summer business toward reinforcing their attacking options.

The club spent north of £200m on Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko. On deadline day, the club unveiled Lammens, who joined from Royal Antwerp.

All four players have already made their mark and appear well settled at Old Trafford. While Cunha has yet to open his goalscoring account for United, his performances have been nothing short of breathtaking. The Brazilian has especially caught the eye with his incredible ball-carrying and dribbling.

Mbeumo has emerged as United’s primary source of goals, with the former Brentford man already having three to his name across the Premier League and Carabao Cup. His most recent strike was the opener in the 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.

Sesko had a relatively slow start but now appears fully up to speed. Like Mbeumo, he has notched two Premier League strikes. Other aspects of the Slovenian’s game have also been outstanding, including his hold-up play, touches and passing. He has also shown himself to be exemplary in the air.

Meanwhile, Lammens has completely transformed United’s fortunes at the back. The goalkeeper kept a clean sheet on his debut against Sunderland and followed that up with another strong performance vs. Liverpool.

The quartet are four of the first names on Ruben Amorim’s team sheets and now, The Sun’s Samuel Luckhurst has revealed what United think about them.

United’s feelings on Cunha, Mbeumo, Sesko and Lammens

Luckhurst claims United believe that Cunha and Mbeumo justified their hefty price tags during the showdown at Anfield.

The report further notes about the pair, “People at United say they are different characters, with Cunha an extrovert and Mbeumo more introverted, yet they share a steely confidence.”

It’s understood that Mbeumo’s consistency has not gone unnoticed among staff.

On Cunha, Luckhurst points out, “Cunha has been ‘great around the place,’ a United source enthused. Staff had been warned that Cunha could be prickly to deal with and that he had a tendency to turn on the charm in public.”

“Yet United figures’ dealings with him have been almost purely positive. Cunha has also struck up an unlikely friendship with Luke Shaw, despite the multitude of Portuguese speakers at the club.”

Cunha’s presence is thought to have relieved some pressure off the shoulders of Bruno Fernandes.

On Sesko, there is some marvel as to how big of an upgrade he is on Rasmus Hojlund, who struggled with the pressure of leading the line for United.

“Hojlund has scored four goals for Napoli but that has been brushed off by those who work with Sesko. Hojlund’s play off the ball was a major concern for Amorim whereas Sesko’s awareness, ball winning and distribution have drawn praise from United coaches.”

Lammens has also earned admiration internally but insiders urge caution as he is still a young goalkeeper learning his craft at the most scrutinised club in world football.
