St. Regis is heading to Costa Rica in 2027

St. Regis Hotels & Resorts broke ground on a new property in Costa Rica on Monday, marking the luxury brand’s first resort in the country.

When it’s complete, The St. Regis Papagayo Resort will sit on more than a quarter of a mile of beachfront in the Guanacaste province on Costa Rica’s Pacific Ocean coast. The hotel is expected to open in early 2027.

“This groundbreaking represents the beginning of an unparalleled luxury experience in Costa Rica,” Alberto Halabe, a partner at Solana, the developer for the property, said in a statement shared with TPG. “The Gulf of Papagayo offers an extraordinary natural setting, and bringing the iconic St. Regis brand here allows us to create a destination that celebrates the essence of Pura Vida through exceptional design, hospitality, and service.”

The oceanfront resort will feature 120 rooms and suites with sea views and a minimalist, modern aesthetic. Guests will be able to enjoy an on-site library, multiple infinity pools and a nature-inspired spa for the ultimate relaxing getaway. Six different dining venues, from The Cliff (a Japanese-Costa Rican fusion restaurant) to the property’s signature St. Regis Bar and Speakeasy, will cater to any taste.

Beyond the guest rooms, The St. Regis Papagayo Resort will welcome travelers with 143 branded residences. These start at $3 million and range from two to five bedrooms, with each offering its own plunge pool. But the crown jewel is the $30 million Astor Mansion, a more than 21,000-square-foot, six-bedroom home with a private pool, a wine cellar and its own gym.

The developer said the groundbreaking for the residences is expected to start later this year.

The resort will be reachable via a short 30-minute drive from Guanacaste Airport (LIR), which welcomes flights from several international carriers, including Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, American Airlines, JetBlue and Southwest, according to the airport.

The luxury Marriott Bonvoy property will be the only St. Regis property in Costa Rica, joining nine other international St. Regis locations in North and Central America and the Caribbean, including in Mexico, the Dominican Republic and beyond.
