Former Screaming Females leader Marissa Paternoster (also of Noun) has a new band with Augusta Koch (Gladie, Cayetana), Nasrene Kordani (The Taxpayers, HIRS Collective), and Ashley Arnwine (Pinkwash, Waxahatchee). Universal Girlfriend have been playing shows around the Northeast since at least August, including a recent Valentine’s Day show at P.I.T. where they were joined by Tracy Bonham on a rendition of her 1996 hit “Mother Mother.” Watch a video clip of that below.
Universal Girlfriend have a couple more shows coming up, both in Philly. They’ve been announced on the lineup of a stacked benefit for Juntos Philadelphia, which is with screamo legends Saetia, Geoff Rickly of Thursday (playing an acoustic set), Philly hardcore band Commitment (mem Soul Glo, Eye Flys, etc), Boston screamo/post-hardcore band The Saddest Landscape, and Reds. It’s on June 14 at First Unitarian Church, and tickets go on sale Friday, February 27 at 10 AM ET.
Before that, Universal Girlfriend play another benefit show with a stacked lineup, for No More Dysphoria, which is with Oceanator, Hit Like a Girl, and a solo set from Frances Quinlan of Hop Along. It’s on March 6 at The First Unitarian Church and tickets are on sale now.
Gladie, meanwhile, have a new album, No Need To Be Lonely, out next month, and their tour for it includes East Coast shows with Marissa’s other band Noun, including Kingston’s Tubby’s on May 7 and Ridgewood, NY’s TV Eye on May 8.
The Saddest Landscape are releasing their first album in 10 years in April, and guests include Touché Amoré’s Jeremy Bolm, Into It. Over It.’s Evan Weiss, and Julien Baker (get our exclusive color vinyl variant). Saetia open for Touché at a special Los Angeles show celebrating 10 years of Stage Four, along with Glassjaw, Incendiary, and Crushed.
Hit Like A Girl also have a new album, Burning At Both Ends, out in March.
