Ruben Amorim’s surprise reason for snubbing Joshua Zirkzee finally emerges – report

Ruben Amorim’s reasoning for constantly overlooking Joshua Zirzkzee this season has been revealed, with the Manchester United forward struggling for minutes.

Zirkzee’s playing time woes persist

Despite a positive conclusion to the 2024/25 campaign, Zirkzee has yet to establish himself as a regular starter this season.

He has yet to start a game this term, with all four of his appearances across the Premier League and EFL Cup coming from the bench.

Zirkzee has amassed the third-fewest minutes of any United player this season. Only Ayden Heaven and Tyler Fredricson have seen less action than the former Bologna man.

To put Zirkzee’s struggles into context, Andre Onana – who departed United to join Trabzonspor on loan last month – has more minutes for United under his belt.

Unsurprisingly, the Netherlands international is dissatisfied with his situation and is believed to be open to a January exit. There has been no shortage of suitors in Zirkzee.

He continues to be linked with the likes of AS Roma, AC Milan, Juventus, Como, Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that West Ham are preparing to table a bid for Zirkzee when the winter window commences.

United remain adamant that the 24-year-old will not be allowed to leave, but they could be forced into sanctioning a departure if he becomes agitated. For now, Zirkzee remains a positive presence in the dressing room.

As the saga rumbles on, Rich Fay of Manchester World has revealed the root of Amorim’s concerns regarding Zirkzee.

Why Amorim is snubbing Zirkzee

According to Fay, Amorim feels Zirkzee does not possess the attributes necessary to cement a long-term role as United’s striker.

“Amorim might insist every player will get their chance, yet even with Sesko out of the starting line up, it is unlikely Zirkzee will be given a chance instead.”

“United adopted a fluid front three at Anfield and this is the more likely plan B for the remainder of the season when they are without their star striker signing.”

“The United head coach does not believe Zirkzee is a ‘clear number nine’ and thinks he lacks the strength to lead the line in his tactical approach.”

Amorim’s stance strongly suggests that Zirkzee may only get a chance in an attacking midfield role. He is facing an uphill battle in this role, considering there is stiff competition from Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount. Bruno Fernandes and Amad can also play there.

Unless Zirkzee’s standing improves, a January exit appears inevitable.
