Robbie Williams surprise releases long-awaited new album ‘BRITPOP’

Robbie Williams has surprised released his new album ‘BRITPOP‘.

The record – his first in nearly a decade – was initially scheduled for release on October 10, but in September it was pushed to February 6 so as not to coincide with Taylor Swift’sThe Life Of A Showgirl’.

Today (January 16), Williams has surprise-dropped the album three weeks early. In an Instagram video sharing the news, the pop star said: “It’s been long enough. I’ve decided that I wanna go now. It’s been ages. Now, please, deploy, now, let’s go.”

You can check out the video and listen to the album below.

Earlier this week, Williams admitted that he would love to beat The Beatles‘ record for Number One albums with ‘BRITPOP’.

The former Take That singer is currently tied on the same number of chart topping albums as The Fab Four, which currently stands at 15. If his new record goes to Number One when it drops on February 6, he will finally beat that record.

When asked how he feels about the prospect, Williams told The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2: “Yeah I want that more than anything in my career right now, of course I do.”

His competition in this week’s charts includes Sleaford Mods, whose new album, ‘The Demise of Planet X’, is also released today, as well as Olivia Dean‘s ‘The Art of Loving‘, which currently claims the top spot.

NME gave ‘BRITPOP’ three stars, in a review that reads: “He’s standing firm. Rather than neck a BuzzBall on a Lime Bike and do his take on ‘Brat’, Robbie knows his game and has done a record for himself. An album to be remembered for? Probably not, but it’s bold, it’s a laugh, and he’s done it his way. That’s what makes him Robbie. For that alone, he’ll live forever.”

Williams previewed the record with the singles ‘Rocket’, which features guitar from Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, ‘Spies’, ‘Human’ and ‘Pretty Face’, and he also played the album in its entirety at a very intimate show at Dingwalls in London in October.

Elsewhere, Williams recently teased a future reunion with Take That, saying he is “sure” he’ll perform with the group again.
