Reverend & The Makers have teamed up with “British icon and mate” Vicky McClure to share a catchy new single titled ‘Haircut’.
The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming eighth album, ‘Is This How Happiness Feels?’, which is set for release on April 24 via Distiller. Visit here to pre-order.
In the single, frontman Jon McClure joins forces with close friend and actor Vicky McClure. The track was produced by the frontman alongside Danny Lafrombé, and is described by the former as arguably the “catchiest” song in their discography so far.
“‘Haircut’ was just about the catchiest thing I’ve ever written since me and my pal Danny did it to be honest. It’s a solid gold banger from day one,” he shared. “Having a British icon and mate like Vicky McClure is just a dream combo. Buzzing to share it with the world.”
Of the track, Vicky said: “My love for music has always been known, with Our Dementia Choir & Day Fever but this was totally unexpected! I love the song, Jon & Rev, always up for trying something new.”

“How did get we get this way?/ Are ya looking to apportion blame / For the fact we’re not conversing/ Evidently we stopped observing / Many of the smallest things,” they sing. “I forgot to get you three rings/ Anniversary dates keep blurring/ Never meant to be late from work.”
The track marks the first new music from Reverend & The Makers in 2025, and follows on from their Christmas single ‘Late Night Phone Call’, which was released in support of Samaritans.
As for the album, their eighth studio release follows the band’s Top 10 album ‘Heatwave In The Cold North’, and sees them merge “life-affirming soul with contemporary lyrical storytelling”.
“This album has been a labour of love owing to personal reasons but has emerged as a joyous triumph,” said the singer. “It’s easily the best thing we’ve ever done and will surprise a few people too.”
It also comes ahead of the Sheffield band playing their biggest headline show to date at the city’s Rock N Roll Circus on August 30. Visit here for remaining tickets.
This isn’t the first time that Jon McClure teamed up with the Line Of Duty star. Last year, the two of them worked with filmmaker Jonny Owen again for their Day Fever Clubbing event, and told NME about how it feels like they were “harking back to an older tradition”.
“It breaks my heart to see so many venues closing or struggling,” the filmmaker told NME last February. “Venues across the country are contacting us about hosting Day Fever, as they’re currently closed during the day. That’s great if we can help, because venues are important to the social fabric of every town they’re in.”
“I’m a patron of Music Venue Trust, who do amazing work. Day Fever helps double the time that venues can do things,” Jon McClure added. “The idea almost harks back to the ‘50s, the days of tea dances. Even when rock ‘n’ roll came along, my uncle went to an afternoon bill at Sheffield City Hall where he saw Jimi Hendrix, The Walker Brothers and Cat Stevens.
“We’re harking back to an older tradition. People have daytime shows in other parts of the world. It’s a British thing that we do everything at night.”
