Red Dead Redemption star Rob Wiethoff has admitted he “possibly misled” fans after teasing that an “exciting” announcement was imminent.

Last week, the voice actor behind Red Dead Redemption’s John Marston streamed himself playing the original game before telling viewers: “I’ve got such exciting news. I can’t share it with you right now and it’s absolutely killing me.”

He went on to say he wouldn’t be the only one sharing it, with fans assuming an announcement about Red Dead Redemption was imminent.

Earlier that week, it had been reported that Rockstar Games are currently working on an updated version of 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 while there was also speculation about a third Red Dead game following the news that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch in May 2026.

However the announcement never came. In a new video, Rob Wiethoff confirmed that he is “really excited” about some imminent news. “But I possibly misled some people when I announced that I have something to announce that I can’t talk about right now,” he added.

“I know that you know this but let me remind you, I do not make announcements for Rockstar Games. Rockstar Games makes announcements for Rockstar Games, and they don’t use me to do that. So please know that,” he continued. “A lot of you are going to be really excited about this news, I just can’t share it with you yet. And I’m so sorry.”

Some fans are now speculating the actor has been cast in a Western while others think he may have received a stern phone call from Rockstar. Others have also pointed out that the original cast of Red Dead Redemption will be reuniting in August for the National Gaming Expo in Florida, so the exciting announcement might be about that.

In other news, Nintendo has been forced to deny that the upcoming Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is about to get a surprise release after posters were spotted around London.
