Portugal. The Man announce new album ‘SHISH,’ share 2 new songs

Portugal. The Man have announced their 10th album, SHISH, due November 7 via the band’s own Thirty Tigers imprint KNIK (pre-order), following a four-album stint on Atlantic. The album announcement follows this past June’s surprise uLu Selects Vol #2 EP, and its opening song is recent single “Denali.” The album artwork and the song titles suggest that the now-Portland-based Portugal. The Man’s original home state of Alaska is a big theme on this album, and along with the announcement comes two more singles, “Tanana” and “Mush.”

“Tanana” finds the band in hazy psych-pop mode, while “Mush” is a little more rocking and propulsive. Speaking about both, singer John Gourley says, “‘Mush’ is survival, connection, and ambition. Rural life with moments of danger and absurdity, like dirt bikes, smokers, gunfire, and video games. The repeated line ‘we can be family’ pushes against isolation, reaching for something solid. This is a repeating theme on the record – build a life, support your people, buy land, and grow something lasting. The message is simple: don’t give up, want more, and fight for it. Meanwhile, ‘Tanana’ voices a generational sadness, searching for fleeting meaning in a world on edge.”

Portugal. The Man’s upcoming tour has also been dubbed the ‘Denali’ tour, and that begins with a two-night stand in Portland in early November. NYC gets a stop on December 3 at Terminal 5. All dates are listed below.
