Pope Leo to visit Algeria, a first in papal history, on packed Africa tour

Pope Leo XIV will visit Algeria in April in the first ever papal visit to the North African nation and the birthplace of St Augustine, the patron saint of Leo’s religious order, the Vatican announced Thursday. The pope’s packed travel plan includes visits to Angola, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. Before his Africa trip, the pope visits Spain, including the Canary Islands, a key point on the Europe migration route.
