Manchester United could be handed a huge market opportunity in January.
United spent the majority of their budget last summer on revamping their attack, leaving Ruben Amorim’s backline untouched despite parting ways with Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof.
Early in the summer, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are interested in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. However, Liverpool showed more intent to get the deal over the line.
Liverpool not expected to sign Guehi in January
Late in the window, it seemed Guehi was joining Liverpool, who struck an agreement with Palace and the player even underwent a medical in London.
However, the Eagles pulled the plug on deadline day after failing to secure his replacement.
The Reds remain interested in the Englishman. However, The Times claim they will now only sign him on a free next summer.
Crystal Palace ready to sell Guehi in January
According to Fichajes, Palace don’t want to lose their skipper for nothing at the end of the season.
As such, the South London outfit would “welcome a sale in January” and are willing to consider a fee in the region of €20m.
United have shown interest in Guehi before and they should be all over the 25-year-old in January.
With Liverpool unlikely to make a move for him mid-season, United might find it easier to convince the Palace star to move to Old Trafford.
However, the Spanish outlet claim Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested in Guehi.
The availability of an established England international for a very reasonable fee is bound to attract more clubs as we head closer to the winter transfer window.
United may have to act quick should they wish to hand Amorim a homegrown and Premier League proven leader at the back, who is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and strong in duels.
