Despite high expectations, Diego Simeone’s side has been eliminated from the Club World Cup. PSG and Botafogo advance from Group B.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup has started to define its first knockout-stage contenders. Flamengo became the first team to clinch a spot in the Round of 16, doing so with one matchday to spare. Thanks to their results, the Brazilian side is guaranteed to finish first in their group, regardless of other outcomes (see tiebreaker rules for further clarification).
Bayern Munich also advanced, although their final position—first or second in their group—is still undecided.
Group G has also confirmed both of its advancing teams: Juventus, who defeated Wydad AC 4–1, and Manchester City, who crushed Al Ain 6–0. The two European giants will face off in the final group match to determine who tops the group.
On Monday, both Paris Saint-Germain and Botafogo sealed their spots in the Round of 16. The French side finished atop Group B, while the reigning Copa Libertadores champions came in second. Atlético Madrid, surprisingly, was eliminated. The bracket is quickly taking shape as the tournament enters its final phase.
