Michael Owen and six Manchester United icons have been nominated for the Premier League Hall of Fame.

Several United legends earn place in Premier League Hall of Fame

The Premier League Hall of Fame was introduced in 2021 to recognise players and managers who have made outstanding contributions to the Premier League since its inception in 1992.

At the moment, there are 24 members of the prestigious club, with several of them boasting ties to United.

The inaugural 2021 class featured United greats including Eric Cantona, Roy Keane and David Beckham, who were inducted alongside Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry.

In 2022, the next group included Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes and Peter Schmeichel. In 2023, Rio Ferdinand and Sir Alex Ferguson were also added to the exclusive group.

Last year, Andy Cole joined the Premier League Hall of Fame and now, seven former United stars are in contention to be included.

The last batch of former United stars to be nominated for the Premier League Hall of Fame are Owen, Gary Neville, Michael Carrick, Teddy Sheringham, Patrice Evra, Edwin van der Sar and Nemanja Vidic.

Every one of the former United players mentioned has lifted the Premier League trophy, and with the exception of Owen, each boasts at least three winners’ medals.

Owen is best known for his time at bitter rivals Liverpool but his sole Premier League title came with United in the 2010/11 season.

The other former players that are on the shortlist are Sol Campbell, Jermain Defoe, Cesc Fabregas, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, Eden Hazard, David Silva and Yaya Toure.

Only two will be inducted.

Voting on the current 15 nominees is set to begin over the next week.

One United great who has been snubbed yet again is Ryan Giggs. As the Daily Mail note, the 13-time Premier League winner appears to be blacklisted amidst controversy that has clouded his personal life and legacy.
