Mariah Carey is set to perform on a floating stage in the Amazon Rainforest next week, in the hopes of drawing attention to the climate crisis.
Next Wednesday (September 17), the ‘Obsessed’ hitmaker will headline the ‘Amazônia Live – Today and Always’ concert, performing on a unique floating stage on the Guamá River to raise awareness for ongoing efforts to preserve the rainforest.
The Amazon sunset will provide the backdrop for Carey’s performance, in a visual ode of the importance of protecting the natural world. Likewise, the stage design was inspired by the region’s symbolic flower, the Victoria Amazonica.
Alongside Carey, the concert will also see opening acts showcase the local culture of Pará, including performances by Dona Onete, Joelma, Gaby Amarantos, and Zaynara.
The unique gig will take place two months ahead of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém in an effort to make a statement about the ongoing importance of protecting the biodiverse area.
“With the conference taking place in November, ” organisers said, “Amazônia Live – Today and Always with Mariah Carey spotlights the need to keep the forest standing by protecting its indigenous peoples, encouraging the bioeconomy, restoring degraded lands, and reforesting – thus contributing to the global challenge of reducing carbon emissions.”
The concert will be filmed for an exclusive TV special, which is set to be broadcast nationwide in Brazil. In addition to Carey’s performance, the event series will see a free concert held by Brazilian star Ivete Sangalo on September 20, bringing the conservation message to over 40,000 fans at the Mangueirão football stadium.
The rainforest gig will come only weeks after Carey took to the stage at the 2025 MTV VMAs, where she was presented with the Video Vanguard Award. That evening, her very minimally choreographed performance got fans talking on social media, with one joking: “She is saving her energy for Christmas and that’s okay.”
Earlier this year, Carey announced her long-awaited record ‘Here For It All’, which is due for release on September 26 – you can pre-order/pre-save here.
In the lead-up to the announcement, Carey had been teasing the album under the moniker ‘MC16’, and previewed the record with ‘Type Dangerous’.
In February, she was nominated for the Class Of 2025 Hall Of Fame, but was snubbed alongside Oasis, Phish, Joy Division/New Order and more when the inductees were confirmed in April.
Mariah Carey’s last album was 2018’s ‘Caution’. Since then, she’s released the standalone single ‘In The Mix’, and has collaborated with the likes of Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson, Busta Rhymes and more.
