Liverpool make official offer for United target, has knock on effect on Mbeumo chase too – Fabrizio Romano, David Ornstein

Manchester United have been dealt a double blow in the summer transfer market as their Premier League rivals move up a gear in their race for strikers.

According to Tier 1 reporter Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have made a formal bid for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, pushing Newcastle United out of the race to sign him.

United have also been in the race for Ekitike, so their arch rivals’ aggression in making the move looks ominous for Ruben Amorim in his quest to bolster his front line.

Etikite’s apparent rejection of the Magpies has led them to refocus their efforts on Brentford forward, Yoane Wissa, according to another tier 1 reporter, David Ornstein.

This also complicates United’s situation as they are locked in negotiations with the Bees to sign Bryan Mbeumo.

If the London club sells Wissa, they will be under no pressure to sell Mbeumo as well and indeed may even decide not to sell him and weaken their side further.
