Lifeguard tell us how King Tubby, The Wipers & more influenced their debut album

Chicago trio Lifeguard released their debut album, Ripped & Torn, earlier in June, and it’s a fresh, exciting distillation of a lot of post-punk influences. (Read our review here and listen to the album below.) For more on those, Lifeguard made us a list of five artists that inspired elements on the album, including The Wipers, The Homosexuals, Laddio Bolocko, King Tubby and Maximum Joy. Lifeguard just wrapped up their European tour and start their North American tour with Louisville’s Parking on Saturday in their hometown at Thalia Hall. They’ll hit the NYC area for shows at Tubby’s Kingston on July 6, and Brooklyn’s Market Hotel on July 11 with Autobahn also on the lineup, and who will stay with Lifeguard through most of the tour’s remaining dates. All dates are listed below.
