Manchester United’s academy starlet Kai Rooney has made a lightening start to the season.
Great start to the season
The 15-year-old is just one of the exciting young talents in the youth teams at Carrington.
Rooney is the son of the club’s all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney.
Kai played in the SuperCupNI this July for United and even scored a goal during the tournament.
He has since started playing for the under-18s and has already found the back of the net in his two appearances this season.
Terrible news
The one thing that all young players hope for, especially when they are climbing the ranks, is that they avoid long-term injury.
Unfortunately, The Mirror report that “Wayne Rooney’s 15-year-old son Kai has said ‘life can’t get worse’ after suffering a painful injury while playing in Manchester United’s development team.”
He posted the message on Instagram alongside a picture of himself in a mirror’s reflection with a protective boot and on crutches.
There has been no official update on the player’s injury but it appears that the young Englishman could be out for the foreseeable future.
Kai has been at the club’s academy since 2020, joining at the age of 11-years-old.
Speaking on his son’s progress Wayne claimed that, “I think it’s very unfair for anyone to expect him to go and do all kinds. He’s just playing, he’s a 15-year-old boy playing his football, enjoying it. Of course he gets different attention to a lot of his team-mates but I think he handles that really well.”
Luckily, even if Kai does have a serious injury, at 15-years-old he has plenty of time on his side to recapture his brilliant form for the under-18s in the future.
