‘Liberals need to reconnect with people’s deep feelings of being disrespected,’ sociologist says

A leading sociologist has told FRANCE 24 that we need to stop defining who is worthy based on professional success. She says our current way of measuring worthiness in diplomas alienates more than half the population, leaving them feeling stigmatised. That in turn leads to a rise in far-right populism. Harvard sociologist Michèle Lamont argues in her book “Seeing Others: How to Redefine Worth in a Divided World” that instead of measuring having, we need to measure being.
