Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence join Martin Scorsese’s next film – ghost story ‘What Happens At Night’

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence have joined Martin Scorsese’s new film, based on the novel What Happens At Night.

The two Oscar-winning actors previously worked together on 2021 climate change satire Don’t Look Up, while DiCaprio and Scorsese have worked together on six projects in the past, most recently 2023’s Killers Of The Flower Moon.

Deadline reports that their next project together will be What Happens At Night, a novel by Peter Cameron published in 2020. The story follows an American couple who travel to a small European town to adopt a baby. Once checked into a large, almost deserted hotel, they encounter numerous strange people.

The article states DiCaprio chose this project over numerous others, including a biopic of Evel Knievel directed by Damien Chazelle (La La Land). StudioCanal will produce the movies in collaboration with Apple Original Films, who financed Killers Of The Flower Moon.

The news comes as the Titanic actor is about to release his latest work, thriller One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The film has received rave reviews and sees the star portray a former revolutionary fighting to save his daughter. The film is in UK cinemas from September 26.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence is due to star in Die, My Love, a drama co-starring Robert Pattinson that debuted in Cannes in May. NME’s review described it as an “Oscars shoo-in”, saying: “Lawrence already has a career full of great performances (Winter’s Bone, American Hustle and her Oscar-winning turn in Silver Linings Playbook), but this might be her finest work to date.” The film comes to cinemas November 14.

Recently, Leonardo DiCaprio discussed the “biggest regret” of his career, which was passing on a film that he described as “a profound movie of my generation.”
