Legendary ‘Dark Souls’ actor Pik-Sen Lim has died

Legendary actor Pik-Sen Lim has died, aged 80.

The news was confirmed by Malaysian newspaper, The Malay Mail. 

The Malaysian-born actor starred in a number of classic British dramas including Doctor Who, Mind Your Language, Coronation Street and The Bill in the ‘70s and ‘80s. She also appeared opposite Rowan Atkinson in 2011’s Johnny English Reborn, where she played the fan-favourite Killer Cleaning Lady.

More recently, she had roles in Vampire Academy (2022) and The Nevers (2023) and has been described by the British Film Institute as “the most recognisable Chinese actor on British television throughout the 1970s and ’80s.”

However Pik-Sen Lim’s most well-known role is the narrator from the beloved Dark Souls series. She voiced the opening cut-scene in the 2011 original and returned for 2016’s Dark Souls 3.

“She will live on in one of the best cutscenes belonging to one of the most revolutionary games of all times, RIP,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “May she rest in peace. Hopefully she knew how important she was,” said another. “Such an iconic voice who definitely impacted a lot of video games,” added a third. 

“Her voice is the perfect intro to Dark Souls – capturing the tone and cadence of the series’ cycles of life and entropy. A theme that permeates much of From’s work. She will be missed,” added another fan.

Paying tribute on Facebook, fellow actor Daniel Y Loh wrote: “A joyous person, full of love and laughter and mischief, she was so much fun to be around and her gift for comedy was such that you always felt safe in front of an audience with her, that absolutely unique voice and vivacious energy carrying us all with her.”

“She was so affectionate, so witty, so brilliantly scabrous and absolutely honest about the rubbish this industry deals actors of our heritage – unlike a fair few others who actually try and cape it…We’ll miss you so much but thank you, Pixi, for blessing our lives with your unique presence,” they added.
