Kevin Morby announces Aaron Dessner-produced album & tour, shares “Javelin” ft. Sylvan Esso’s Amelia Meath

Kevin Morby has announced his eighth solo album, Little Wide Open, which will be out May 15 via Dead Oceans. The album was produced by Aaron Dessner, who also plays on it, and it features contributions by Justin Vernon, Amelia Meath (Sylvan Esso), Katie Gavin (MUNA), Lucinda Williams, Mat Davidson (TWAIN), Meg Duffy (Hand Habits), Oliver Hill, Rachel Baiman, Stuart Bogie, Tim Carr, Andrew Barr (The Barr Brothers), Benjamin Lanz (The National), Colin Croom (Twin Peaks) and Tom Mot.

“Little Wide Open is set to a backdrop of tangled highways, towns with populations less than 100,000, roadside crosses, a rock and roll romance, coupling butterflies, being an American entertainer, Econoline vans and more,” says Morby of this third chapter in what’s turned out to be a trilogy, started with 2020’s Sundowner and 2022’s This Is a Photograph. “This is, without a doubt, the most personal and vulnerable album I’ve ever made. Aaron did a heroic job of holding me back from throwing too many tricks at the songs, and letting my stories stand a bit naked. Despite its title this album is in fact, very wide open.”

The first single from the album is “Javelin,” which features backing vocals by Meath. “This is a song I wrote about being in love with someone you keep circling around the globe, relentlessly traveling through the air and down highways, and then returning home alone to middle America,” Kevin says. “Amelia Meath shines here, with her incredible vocals. I had invited her into the studio and asked that she create a backing choir out of just her voice – but her presence is so special that her ‘backing vocals’ can’t help but take the lead.” Listen below.

Kevin has also announced a spring North American tour which has Liam Kazar opening all dates and begins May 8 at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY. The NYC show happens June 10 at Brooklyn Steel and tickets for all stops go on sale Friday, February 13 at 10 AM local time. There are also UK/EU dates this summer and all are listed below.
