It shouldn’t come as a surprise to those who also know NYC Councilman and NYC Comptroller candidate Justin Brannan as the longtime guitarist of Brooklyn hardcore bands Indecision and Most Precious Blood that Brannan has good music taste, but just in case, he’s making sure that you know. He just did a SubwayTakes with Kareem Rahma interview in which he said “all politicians should be mandated to share their Spotify Wrapped… enough of this curated authenticity. I want to actually know what you listen to, not what your consultants say you should tell people you listen to,” and he followed that by sharing his Spotify Wrapped from last year.
His top 5 most played artists of 2024 were Bad Religion, Circle Jerks, the Grateful Dead, Social Distortion, and Earth Crisis, and his top 100 songs also included tracks by the Ramones, Simon & Garfunkel, Leeway, Andrew W.K., Rocket From The Crypt, The Jam, Slayer, The Kills, Bauhaus, Exodus, X, Fishbone, Elvis Costello, Rancid, Bleed, and more. Check out the playlist, Justin’s Spotify Wrapped, and his SubwayTakes interview below.
This news follows yesterday’s endorsement of Brannan for NYC Comptroller by Bernie Sanders, who also endorsed the MJ Lenderman and Avalon Emerson-approved NYC mayoral candidate (and former rapper) Zohran Mamdani (who recently talked about his music taste with Pitchfork).
