Jonathan Richman reunites with Jerry Harrison on new album, on tour now – hear 2 songs

Jonathan Richman is back with a new album, Only Frozen Sky Anyway, which will be out July 16 via his own Blue Arrow Records. Like 2021’s Want to Visit My Inner House?, this one was co-produced by Talking Heads‘ Jerry Harrison, who, before joining that band, was a member of Jonathan’s band The Modern Lovers. (He plays on Modern Lovers’ classic 1976 debut but had already left the group when it came out.) Jerry plays keyboards on the album, too, which also features regular JoJo collaborator Tommy Larkins on drums.

Only Frozen Sky Anyway includes 11 originals and a cover of the Bee-Gees’ “Night Fever.” You can listen to “O Guitar,” a classic Jonathan Richman-style song about the power of his instrument to convey emotions, and the album’s funky, quasi title track, “I Was Just A Piece Of Frozen Sky Anyway.” Listen to both below.

Jonathan and Tommy are on tour now in the Pacific Northwest and will hit the Northeast this fall, though there aren’t currently any NYC shows on his schedule. Check out all tour dates below.
