INEOS set to appoint Liverpool’s title-winning ex-coach to key role in United Women’s team – The Athletic

Manchester United Women are set to appoint a former manager of arch rivals Liverpool.

Promising start to the season

Marc Skinner’s side have started the season in fantastic form, securing their passage to the third round of Champions League qualifying.

They also began the Women’s Super League season in the best way possible, beating Leicester City 4-0.

New appointment

United had an active transfer window, bringing in Swedish duo Julieta Zigiotti and Fridolina Rolfö alongside Jess Park from cross-city rivals Manchester City.

The Red Devils could be about to welcome another former member of a great rival, Liverpool.

The Athletic report that “Manchester United are set to appoint Scott Rogers as assistant coach to the women’s team.”

The report adds that, “Rogers left his role as Liverpool women’s assistant head coach in August following the arrival of new head coach Gareth Taylor.”

Title-winning experience

Rogers spent numerous years in Merseyside, his first spell from 2013 to 2018 where he was assistant manager during Liverpool’s title winning years of 2013 and 2014.

He was also manager of the club between 2015-2018, guiding the side to mid-table finishes.

After 2018 he went on to become head of coaching at Accrington Stanley’s boys academy.

Rogers will join United’s already talented team of “Dan Bale, who joined in November 2023, and Carl Green, who worked with Skinner at Orlando Pride and Birmingham City.”

Upheaval continues

The male team has had to endure a lot of changes at player and coaching level over the last few months and it has been no different for the female team.

Charlotte Healy left after six years at the club as an assistant to become head coach of Bristol City women.

In spite of Skinner’s four years at the club, Healy was one of nine members of staff to confirm their departure this summer from United in a much-changed backroom staff line-up.
