Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson has reportedly made his stance on a Manchester United return crystal clear.
Henderson at United
Henderson joined United’s famed academy in 2011 and rose through the ranks, going on to put pen to paper on his first professional contract in 2015.
During his time at Old Trafford, Henderson had several loan spells, turning out for the likes of Stockport County, Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury Town, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest.
He made his first-team debut for United in September 2020 during a Carabao Cup meeting with Luton Town. But Premier League appearances were hard to come by for Henderson. At one point, Henderson seemed the natural successor to David de Gea, only for then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to withdraw his backing.
The England international permanently parted ways with the Red Devils in 2023, joining Crystal Palace in a deal worth £15m.
He is currently Palace’s undisputed number one and played a key role in the club’s historical FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City last term. He was also instrumental as Palace beat Liverpool to lift the Community Shield trophy.
With United facing a goalkeeping crisis, fuelled by uncertainty over Altay Bayindir’s reliability and questions about new arrival Senne Lammens’ readiness, some supporters have been left ruing why Henderson is no longer an option.
Now, the player’s stance on returning to the Red Devils has emerged.
Henderson’s position on United return
According to The Sun’s Samuel Luckhurst, Henderson has zero desire to play for United ever again.
Luckhurst notes, “Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is to blame for that after he reneged on a pre-season pledge to install Henderson as No1 in 2021.”
“Henderson has told confidants he would never return to United.”
“If they did come calling, with the promise of a salary hike and a bigger platform to challenge Pickford for the England spot, one suspects Henderson’s head would be turned.”
Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim and his players are back in action on Saturday when they take on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
