“He’s not quite ready”: Carrick drops bombshell injury update ahead of United’s trip to Newcastle – report

Manchester United are gearing up for a crucial Premier League clash against Newcastle on Wednesday, and Michael Carrick has a lot to worry about on the injury front.

Defensively, the Red Devils are reeling with both Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire going off in the win against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined, as does Patrick Dorgu. And now, the caretaker head coach has provided an update on Lisandro Martinez.

The Argentine missed the game against Everton, and Leny Yoro was drafted into the first XI in his absence. It was claimed that the World Cup winner had suffered a minor injury and would be back in no time.

Lisandro Martinez injury update

He ended up missing the Palace game as well, and now, as Carrick revealed to club media, the 28-year-old will not be fit for United’s trip to St. James’ Park.

“Not particularly, really, no,” Carrick replied when asked if there was a positive update on Lisandro Martinez. “He won’t be with us. He’s not quite ready for that.”

“We’ve got one or two we’re trying to work to get them back – Mason as well, he’s getting a bit closer, so unfortunately it’s part of the game.

“There’s always going to be people out, there’s always going to be people missing, but we’ll keep working as hard as we can to get them back.”

Carrick will miss Lisandro Martinez given Yoro’s form

The former Ajax ace missing another tie would not have been an issue if not for the other injury problems and Yoro’s struggles.

The Frenchman was to blame for Palace’s goal, and at only 20 years old, mistakes can often weigh heavily on the minds of young players.

United also have Ayden Heaven on the bench. It will be interesting to see the lineup Carrick goes for as he targets a seventh win in eight games.

As for Lisandro Martinez, United are not too concerned with his poor injury record and are keen to extend his stay at the club amid interest from Barcelona.
