Here’s the first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in new ‘Tomb Raider’ series

The first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider series has been revealed. Check out the photo below.

The Game Of Thrones star will portray the archaeologist and adventurer in Amazon Prime Video’s TV adaptation of the hit game franchise.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) serves as creator, writer, executive producer and co-showrunner. Chad Hodge is attached as co-showrunner and executive producer, with Jonathan Van Tulleken directing and executive producing.

The upcoming series is produced by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios.

Turner will appear alongside the recently announced cast members Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein.

Sharing the first official photo of her take on Croft today (Thursday January 15), Turner wrote: “ #TombRaider #WardrobeTest.” The image shows the actor depicting what appears to be the traditional version of Croft from the ’90s.

She is donning round red shades, shorts and a green tank top, while holding two guns in her holster belt. See the picture here:

The photo has been revealed to mark the start of production on the new series, per a press release.

In a previous statement, Turner said: “I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got.”

Angelina Jolie previously took on the role of Croft in two film adaptations, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle Of Life (2003). A more modern take on the character appeared in the 2018 movie reboot, played by Alicia Vikander.

Turner explained: “They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”

A release date has not yet been confirmed. According to Prime Video boss Vernon Sanders, the show will “honour the beloved Tomb Raider legacy while delivering fresh adventures to fans worldwide”.

Waller-Bridge said last year: “I’m so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team.

“It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artefacts out… Croft is coming…”

Sophie Turner had been rumoured to play Croft since November 2024.

In other news, the actor recently said she wouldn’t rule out getting involved in a Game Of Thrones sequel.
