Matheus Cunha has offered a glowing assessment of Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo.
The club’s official website published the comments in a piece covering Cunha’s interview with Premier League Productions.
Cunha suggested Mbeumo’s value goes beyond goals, highlighting his character and daily standards around the squad.
Mbeumo is currently United’s leading scorer with 10 goals in all competitions this season, while Cunha has six, the same as captain Bruno Fernandes.
The pair previously faced each other in the Premier League when Cunha was at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Mbeumo represented Brentford, but they are now team-mates at Old Trafford.
Cunha highlights “energy” plus hunger for success
Asked what Mbeumo brings to the table, Cunha replied: “A lot of energy. What a lovely guy.”
He added: “I’m around him every day, he’s someone that is fun.”
Cunha also framed their move to United as a shared mission, saying: “To be together now and help United is something that […] we can be a small part of the success of the team.”
The club piece notes the attacking duo have been central to United’s resurgence under Michael Carrick during their debut campaign in M16.
“Intelligent” finisher praised for big-game impact
Cunha described Mbeumo as tactically sharp, saying: “He’s very intelligent, he’s very clever.”
He continued: “He shoots so well, so good […] it’s a pleasure to play with him […] we know he can create something special.”
United’s number 10 also rejected any suggestion his team-mate is overlooked: “For me, he’s never an underrated player because I put him so high.”
The article added that Mbeumo’s influence has already been recognised through United’s men’s Player of the Month awards in August and October, plus a Premier League monthly prize in October.
Cunha also shared a detail supporters rarely see, saying: “Every training, after training, we stay to do finishing […] it’s always a good competition.”
United will hope that extra work continues to show in the Premier League run-in, with the club currently sitting fourth in the table and an away trip to Everton coming up later this month.
