Glazers meet with INEOS at United’s training ground as exciting plans unveiled – report

Apart from trying to keep Manchester United’s season from going off the rails, INEOS are also trying to determine the best way forward regarding the new stadium.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe had revealed his dream of building a new Wembley of the North where Old Trafford currently stands.

The iconic amphitheatre has been left to rot by the Glazers for far too long now, and the new co-owners have felt that building a new 100,000-seater stadium is better than renovating the Theatre of Dreams.

There have been multiple hurdles, concerning land acquisition and getting approval, with INEOS also trying to fund the project through a mixture of investment and commercial deals.

Secret meeting at Carrington

Having multiple commercial partners while also selling stadium rights could be ways to fund the construction.

Now, as per Centredevils, both INEOS and the Glazers were at Carrington recently, where they met a potential investor.

“CentreDevils understands that an investor was at Carrington yesterday who met with Joel and Avram Glazer as well as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS heads regarding the potential new stadium, as well as to discuss the overall process of it.

“United are looking for sponsors who could buy naming rights of the stadium as well as looking for commercial partners.

“Many details are still unresolved, including finalising financing mechanisms and land/site clearance before construction can start.”

The initial price quoted for the project is expected to double while there are also plans to change the look of the new stadium.

Government funding will be sought by the club for the wider infrastructure in the surrounding areas.

As of now, the plan is to have New Trafford ready by the 2030-31 season.

The first team will return to action on Saturday, playing the Manchester derby under new interim head coach Michael Carrick.
