Jarvis Cocker and co took over the Pyramid Stage at 6:15pm on Saturday at Worthy Farm, a slot that was reserved for the mysterious Patchwork on the bill to deliver a career-spanning set.
The set began with over 20 people dressed in black and white “patches” walking on stage as the screen behind them flashed “Are you ready for… Pulp summer” before the Britpop legends took the stage. Wasting no time, they launched into ‘Sorted for E’s & Wizz’ and ‘Disco 2000’ before Cocker greeted the packed main stage.

“Did you know we were gonna play? How?” he asked, cheekily addressing the rumours of their secret identity as Patchwork despite attempting to shoot them down numerous times.
He went on to explain the significance of the first two songs in their set, when they played Glastonbury back in 1995 on short notice: “Those songs were played here 30 years and four days ago, they were played for the first time. You could say they were born at Glastonbury.”
Of their 1995 set, Cocker reflected: “We played here with just 10 days’ notice after John Squire broke his collarbone. We were so nervous, but today feels very different – I feel relaxed…”

In the lead-up to the performance, one of the most talked-about rumours was that of a mysterious artist going by the name ‘Patchwork’ on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday.
Since it was announced, fans and bookies were convinced that the set would most likely be a surprise set from Britpop legends, Pulp – although both frontman Jarvis Cocker and keyboardist Candida Doyle were quick to dismiss the rumours.
Pulp’s set grew more concrete on Friday, when Cocker revealed that he was at Worthy Farm for a DJ set. Meanwhile, Haim have been revealed as Saturday’s other secret set, billed as TBA for the Park Stage.
Friday at Glastonbury saw The 1975 headline the Pyramid Stage, earning a four-star review from NME, which read: “With their one show of the year, “The 1975 from the Internet” clear the decks on their career so far to deliver a reminder of their chops for tunes and showmanship away from the headlines.”
The weekend continues with Charli XCX, Skepta – who’s filling in on short notice for Deftones who are unable to perform due to illness, Olivia Rodrigo, The Prodigy, Rod Stewart and many more. Check out the full line-up and schedule here.
In other news, the BBC have also confirmed that they will be streaming Neil Young‘s headline set, after all while Kneecap’s set was removed from the live-stream schedule at the last minute and will instead be made available as an on-demand clip later on.
