France moves to return colonial-era ‘talking drum’ to Ivory Coast

France’s parliament on Monday approved the return of the Djidji Ayokwe, a prized drum, to Ivory Coast, more than a century after it was taken from the Ebrie tribe by French troops in 1916. The large drum, once used to send warnings and messages, was among 148 cultural items requested for repatriation by Ivory Coast back in 2018.
