Former United boss has PL job offer he will “relish”, huge chance to respond to critics – report

Following Saturday’s win against Chelsea, Manchester United are currently 11th in the Premier League standings with two wins out of five.

Not a great start, and it follows an underwhelming last campaign, which began under Erik ten Hag, and ended with Ruben Amorim at the helm.

The Dutchman was sacked after nine games, and while that might sound harsh considering he had won the FA Cup in the previous season, the truth was the football under him meant his position had become untenable.

The Dutchman’s debut season was a wildly entertaining affair, with the team playing beautiful football at times, while notching famous wins over Manchester City in the league and Barcelona in Europe.

Erik ten Hag’s United downfall

Not to mention a Carabao Cup triumph and a top-three finish. However, things unraveled quickly as he switched to a transitional style of play which included leaving vast open spaces in midfield.

And a poor start to the 24/25 campaign meant he was sacked and the ex-Ajax coach remained without a job for more than six months before eventually agreeing to replace Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen.

The stint did not last long, with the Dutch boss sacked after only three games. He was subsequently criticised for his interference with squad planning, and poor training methods.

Erik ten Hag was also linked with the FC Twente job, but he turned it down. Now, SportsBoom have claimed that he could be closing in on a return to the Premier League.

Return to the Premier League?

West Ham United are mulling over parting ways with Graham Potter after a disastrous start to the season,

“Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag would relish a return to the Premier League – and taking over at West Ham is in his sights, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

“Ten Hag has been linked with a number of Saudi Pro League clubs, but any potential deals never materialised, with the Saudi Pro League transfer window having slammed shut on Tuesday.

“Sources understand Ten Hag is now ready to get back into management – and a return to the Premier League is an opportunity he would relish.”

This might hand Erik ten Hag the chance to salvage his reputation. Now the Hammers management will decide whether they want to take a punt on the ex-United boss.
