Maggie Gyllenhaal’s new movie The Bride!, a bold reimagining of The Bride of Frankenstein, is out next week (March 6), and the film features a musical number soundtracked by Fever Ray, who also appears in the film. Fever Ray recorded two songs for The Bride, “The Lake” and “Wrong Flower,” and those are out now on a new EP featuring both “cinematic” versions used in the film and and the original studio mixes.
“I’m very thankful for being invited to this project by Maggie Gyllenhaal! I was a fan before, but when I read the manuscript for the first time, I was hooked,” says Fever Ray’s Karin Dreijer. “The language of The Bride! is poetic, fun and magical, exactly where I like to exist.”
“The Lake” in particular is terrific, a total Fever Ray baanger. Listen to the EP below.
The Bride stars Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Maggie’s brother Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz. Maggie wrote and directed, and the score is by Hildur Guðnadóttir (Tar, Chernobyl).
Here’s the synopsis: “A lonely Frankenstein (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!” Watch the trailer below.
