Robin Wright plays an overprotective mother in psychological thriller series The Girlfriend.

Based on the novel by Michelle Frances, the series follows Laura (Wright) whose life starts to unravel when her son Daniel (Laurie Davidson) brings home his new girlfriend Cherry (Olivia Cooke), who she’s convinced is hiding something.

Other cast members in the series include Waleed Zuaiter, Anna Chancellor, Francesca Corney, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Karen Henthorn, Leo Suter and Tanya Moodie. Along with starring in the show, Wright directed the first three episodes.

All six episodes of The Girlfriend were released on Amazon Prime Video on September 10, 2025.
