EU rallies behind Ukraine at summit and adopts new sanctions against Russia

The Russian foreign ministry said EU sanctions against Moscow mainly harm the bloc itself, accusing EU leaders of refusing to admit their measures are ineffective. Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also denounced new US energy sanctions as “counterproductive” for peace efforts in Ukraine, adding that Russia’s goals in the conflict remain unchanged. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the latest U.S. and EU sanctions, calling them “very important,” and said a ceasefire was possible only with increased pressure on Moscow, while rejecting any territorial concessions. France24 correspondent Dave Keating reports the latest from the European Parliament in Brussels.
