Joe Sutkowski will release his third album as Dirt Buyer, Dirt Buyer III, this Friday (2/6) via Bayonet Records, and as the singles hinted, it finds the Brooklyn indie rock musician turning his sound into something louder, bolder, and more hi-fi than ever before. The songs pop out at you more, offering up a cathartic release from the dark, personal themes that make up this record. “These songs are from the most difficult time of my life,” says Joe, referring to the alcohol and relationship struggles that he was dealing with while writing this record. “I did so much work on myself, and now I can talk about it all because I’m still here.”
At this point, Joe is a staple of the current NYC music scene–in addition to leading Dirt Buyer, he also plays in This Is Lorelei‘s live band–and ahead of the release of Dirt Buyer III, he’s made us a list of 5 of his favorite New York bands. It includes people he knows and plays music with, as well as legends who made their mark long before Joe was even born and one in between. He had plenty to say about each one, as you can see in the video below.
