Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen has given a fitness update on Manchester United talent Harry Amass after he appeared to have sustained an injury over the weekend.
Amass makes his Wednesday debut
Amass joined Wednesday on transfer deadline day, after United deemed it the best move for his sustained development.
With United out of Europe and fewer fixtures to play, the feeling was that Amass would struggle for significant first-team minutes, and this would have perhaps hindered his progress.
A number of clubs expressed interest in him but it was Wednesday who ultimately won the race for his signature.
He made his bow for the Owls last on Saturday as they fell to a 3-0 loss at the hands of Bristol City. It was a tough start to life at the club for Amass, who scored an own goal in the sixth minute.
However, he recovered well from there and put up a strong performance before he was forced off in the 68th minute after an aggressive challenge from Yu Hirakawa.
Amass hobbled off the pitch and there were concerns he had picked up an injury. However, Pedersen has eased these fears, insisting the defender is fit.
Pedersen issues Amass injury update
Pedersen said [as quoted by The Star], “He is OK.”
“We spoke about if we should take him off at the half-time, but he said he could play some minutes more so we decided to continue with him.”
“It was positive for him, very positive…”
“It was his first Championship game ever and I am happy for what he did today.”
Amass and his teammates are back in action on Wednesday wehen they host Grimsby Town in the third round of the EFL Cup.
