Manchester United have been assured they need not fear a Premier League rival entering the race for Emiliano Martínez.
Unconvincing performances from André Onana (and even Altay Bayındır) last season cast doubt on whether either could be fully trusted between the sticks.
With head coach Rúben Amorim signalling his desire to strengthen the goalkeeping department, several of Europe’s top shot-stoppers have been linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams.
Persistent Martínez links
Of the many goalies linked, Martínez refuses to go away.
The Aston Villa goalkeeper is expected to leave Villa Park this summer.
At 32, he should be angling for a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League, where he is well-appreciated.
However, it is claimed that he wishes to continue in Europe to play a key role for Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Though United remain linked, Chelsea (who have also indicated a desire to add a goalkeeper) were also rumoured to be eyeing a move for the FIFA Best Goalkeeper of 2024.
Martínez not in talks with Chelsea
However, Fabrizio Romano has now suggested otherwise.
Via a post on X, the European transfer expert confirmed that Chelsea are not in negotiations with the World Cup winner.
While the Enzo Maresca-led side appreciates Martínez, he affirms they are currently not pursuing a goalkeeper.
Chelsea are not among clubs in active talks to sign Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez this summer.

This update will be welcomed at Old Trafford, but will United convert their long-standing interest into a formal approach?
Goalkeeper signing not a priority
A high-profile addition between the posts is not a top priority for INEOS this summer.
They are expected to dedicate most of their summer spending towards strengthening Amorim’s attacking options.
That said, if a serious offer arrives for Onana, United may capitalise on it and swiftly secure an upgrade.
Either way, the goalkeeping situation is one United fans would be keeping a close eye on.
Should a move materialise, Martínez (given his pedigree and availability) could well be the one to satisfy Amorim’s ambition to install a top-class presence in goal.
