Caroline Polachek releases ‘Death Stranding 2: On The Beach’ title track

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is the long-awaited follow-up to Hideo Kojima’s hit 2019 game Death Stranding which saw players take control of Sam Porter and “connect a divided America, preventing the extinction of humanity” after a devastating event caused destructive creatures to appear across North America. Death Stranding 2 is set 11 months later.

“Sam – with companions by his side – sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction.Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: Should we have connected?” reads the official description.

Ahead of the game’s release this week (June 26) Caroline Polachek has released the official title track ‘On The Beach’, which was co-written with Danny L Harle and Hideo Kojima. Check it out below.

“‘On The Beach’ was actually one of the first songs I ever made with Danny L Harle, but it was too alien and industrial- almost too evil – to work sense on [her 2019 album] ‘Pang’, so I set it aside til the right thing came along,” said Polachek.

“When Kojima approached me about Death Stranding 2, I showed him the sketch of it and he agreed that it was a perfect fit, and so eight years after starting this song, it got reopened, extended, and finished for the perfect setting.”

Speaking about her involvement in the game, Kojima said: “I was listening to Caroline Polachek last year and became a big fan of hers. After I put that on my Instagram, she contacted me, and then we DM’d. We kept in touch and eventually met up in Paris, and that’s when she told me she wanted to write a new song for Death Stranding 2. She works very fast.”

Following the news, one fan dug out a comment from last year that saw Polachek say it would be a “dream” to score a Hideo Kojima game.

Caroline Polachek’s last single was 2024’s ‘Starburned And Unkissed’ but she’s recently appeared on songs with caroline (‘Tell Me I Never Knew That’) and Charli XCX (‘Everything Is Romantic’).

Death Stranding 2 once again features an orchestral score from Ludvig Forssell while Woodkid has created the game’s official soundtrack. The first single ‘To The Wilder’ was released earlier this year and the full album was made available to stream last week.

During the development of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Kojima has also shared photos with Bring Me The Horizon, Nine Inch Nails and CHVRCHES, leading to rumours all three artists will be involved in the new game or the big screen adaptation that’s currently in the works.

Earlier this week, Kojima confirmed he won’t be directing the Death Stranding movie.

In other news, Gears Of War fans have spent the weekend playing Reloaded and are “disappointed” with the long-awaited remaster.
